Southern Europe, according to a number of modern classifications - historical, political, cultural and geographical region in Europe, located in the south of Europe, which includes the states on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea and the Iberian Peninsula (Portugal, Spain, Andorra, Gibraltar), France (Cote d'Azur and Corsica), Monaco, the states located on the Apennine Peninsula (Italy, Vatican City, San Marino), Greece, as well as the island states of Malta and Cyprus. Sometimes Southern Europe also includes the Balkan Peninsula states of Croatia, Bulgaria, Slovenia, Montenegro, Serbia, North Macedonia, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the European part of Turkey.
