Western Europe is a group of European states united on political or cultural and geographical grounds. During the Cold War, Western European states included members of the NATO bloc, while Eastern European states made up the Warsaw Pact Organization (WPO). Currently, Western European countries include Belgium, Luxembourg, Monaco, the Netherlands and France. Also, according to some classifications, Austria, United Kingdom, Germany, Ireland, Liechtenstein, Switzerland, Andorra, Portugal, and Spain are often considered to be Western European countries.
