About Manila
Manila is the capital city of the Philippines and the most densely populated city proper in the world. Located on the eastern shore of Manila Bay on the island of Luzon, it has a total population of 1,846,513 (2020 census).
The city serves as the nation's economic, political, and cultural center. Founded on June 24, 1571, by Spanish conquistador Miguel López de Legazpi, Manila became the seat of Spanish colonial rule in the Philippines for over three centuries.
Manila's port, Manila Harbor, is the primary seaport of the Philippines and one of the largest seaports in Asia. The city is divided into six legislative districts and consists of sixteen geographical districts.
The Pasig River flows through the middle of the city, dividing it into the north and south sections. The city's elevation ranges from sea level to 30 meters above sea level.
