About San Lorenzo
San Lorenzo is a city and municipality located in the Valle Department in southern Honduras. It sits near the coast of the Gulf of Fonseca, which is shared by Honduras, El Salvador, and Nicaragua.

The city serves as a significant economic hub in the southern region of the country. Its port, known as Puerto de Henecán, is one of Honduras's primary Pacific-coast ports and handles a substantial volume of cargo, including imports and exports of goods moving through the region.
San Lorenzo lies along the Pan-American Highway, which contributes to its role as a transit and commercial center connecting Honduras with neighboring Central American countries.
The local economy relies heavily on aquaculture, particularly shrimp farming. The surrounding coastal lowlands and mangrove ecosystems provide conditions favorable for this industry, making the area one of the more productive shrimp-producing zones in Honduras.
The Valle Department, in which San Lorenzo is situated, has its administrative capital in the city of Nacaome. San Lorenzo, however, remains the largest and most commercially active urban center within the department.
The surrounding landscape is characterized by flat coastal plains, tidal channels, and mangrove forests that line the shores of the Gulf of Fonseca. These ecosystems support both the local fishing economy and notable biodiversity.
The climate is tropical, with a pronounced dry season and a wet season that brings significant rainfall to the region between May and October.
