About Mindoro Island
Mindoro, the seventh-largest island in the Philippines, spans 4,082 square miles (10,572 square kilometers). The island is divided into two provinces: Oriental and Occidental Mindoro. Its most distinctive feature is Mount Halcon, one of the more challenging climbing destinations in the Philippines. The island is also home to the indigenous Mangyan people, known for their preserved ancient script and traditional crafts.
Puerto Galera, a UNESCO Man and Biosphere Reserve, draws tourists with its beautiful beaches and rich marine life. The island's interior harbors the critically endangered Mindoro dwarf buffalo, locally known as tamaraw. Mindoro's economy balances tourism, agriculture, and fishing, with significant rice production in its lowland areas.
