Luzon is the largest and most populous island in the Philippines, located in the northernmost region of the Philippine archipelago. The island has a total land area of 109,965 square kilometers (42,458 square miles).
It is bordered by the Philippine Sea to the east, the South China Sea to the west, and the Luzon Strait to the north. The island's coordinates are approximately 16°N 121°E.
The island is home to Manila, the national capital and largest city of the Philippines. As of 2020, Luzon has a population of approximately 53 million people, representing about half of the country's total population.
Luzon's geography is characterized by mountainous regions, including the Sierra Madre mountain range, the longest mountain range in the country. The island also features the Cagayan Valley, one of the largest river valleys in the Philippines, and Mount Pinatubo, an active stratovolcano.
