List of islands of the Indonesia Alphabetically

Indonesia is the world's largest archipelagic country, consisting of more than 17,500 islands. The largest islands are Sumatra, Java, Sulawesi, and parts of Borneo (Kalimantan) and New Guinea (Papua). Only about 6,000 of these islands are inhabited.

The Indonesian archipelago stretches along the equator between the Pacific and Indian Oceans. The islands cover a total area of approximately 1.9 million square kilometers. The country's major islands were formed by volcanic activity, making Indonesia home to 147 volcanoes, with around 76 of them being historically active.

The archipelago features incredible biodiversity, with unique species like the Komodo dragon, orangutan, and various endemic birds. The waters surrounding these islands contain 20% of the world's coral reefs. Due to its location along the "Ring of Fire," Indonesia experiences frequent seismic and volcanic activity, which has shaped its landscape over millions of years.
