North Asia is the northern region of Asia, which is geographically defined and consists of three federal districts of Russia: the Ural, Siberian and Far Eastern districts. The region makes up the bulk of the Asian part of Russia. North Asia is bordered by the Arctic Ocean to the north, Eastern Europe to the west, Central and East Asia to the south, and the Pacific Ocean and North America to the east. It has an area of 5,100,000 square miles (13,100,000 square kilometers), or 8.8% of the Earth's total land area; it is Asia's largest subregion by area, occupying about 29.4% of Asia's land area, but it is also the most sparsely populated, with a population of about 37.2 million people (about 25.6% of the population of the Russian Federation), only 0.74% of Asia's population.
Major rivers: Ob, Yenisei, Lena, Irtysh, Angara, Amur.
The largest lakes: Baikal, Taymyr, Khanka, Ubsu-Nur, Chany.
