About Terminal T
Terminal T is the newest terminal at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, officially opened on May 16, 2023. The terminal serves as the primary hub for domestic operations of Delta Air Lines and represents a significant expansion of the world's busiest airport by passenger traffic.
The facility spans approximately 1.5 million square feet and features 40 gates across three concourses. Terminal T was constructed as part of a $6 billion capital improvement program aimed at modernizing Atlanta's airport infrastructure. The terminal's design incorporates advanced technology systems, including automated baggage handling and enhanced security screening capabilities.
Notable features of Terminal T include a centralized security checkpoint, expanded retail and dining options, and improved passenger flow systems. The terminal houses over 50 restaurants and retail establishments, including both local Atlanta brands and national chains. A dedicated ground transportation center connects passengers to various transportation options, including MARTA rail service, rental cars, and ride-sharing services.
The terminal's architecture emphasizes natural lighting through extensive use of floor-to-ceiling windows and skylights. Sustainability features include energy-efficient LED lighting systems and water conservation technologies throughout the facility.
Terminal T primarily handles Delta's domestic flights, consolidating operations that were previously spread across multiple terminals. The facility is designed to accommodate approximately 11 million passengers annually. Construction began in 2019, with the project managed by the Atlanta Department of Aviation in partnership with various architectural and engineering firms.
