About Terminal E
Terminal E at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport serves as one of the airport's seven passenger terminals, located on the eastern side of the airport complex. Opened in 1980, Terminal E was designed to accommodate the growing passenger traffic at what would become the world's busiest airport by passenger volume.
The terminal features 32 gates numbered E1 through E32, arranged in a linear configuration typical of Atlanta's terminal design. Terminal E primarily serves domestic flights operated by various airlines, with Delta Air Lines maintaining a significant presence due to Atlanta serving as the carrier's primary hub. The terminal connects to the airport's automated people mover system, allowing passengers to transfer between terminals and access ground transportation options.
Terminal E underwent major renovations in the early 2000s as part of the airport's modernization program. These improvements included updated passenger amenities, expanded retail and dining options, and enhanced security screening areas. The terminal features multiple restaurants, shops, and service facilities distributed throughout its concourse areas.
Transportation access to Terminal E includes the automated train system that connects all terminals to the central terminal building and ground transportation hub. Passengers can access rental car facilities, hotel shuttles, and the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) rail system through the ground transportation level.
The terminal's design incorporates elements typical of Atlanta International Airport's architectural style, featuring high ceilings, natural lighting, and efficient passenger flow patterns. Terminal E continues to serve millions of passengers annually as part of the airport's comprehensive terminal system.
