About Main Terminal

The Domestic Terminal, also known as the Main Terminal, serves as the central hub of Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. Originally opened in 1980, this facility houses the primary check-in areas, baggage claim, and ground transportation services for the airport's extensive domestic operations.

The terminal building spans approximately 2.5 million square feet and connects to seven concourses (A, B, C, D, E, F, and T) via the Plane Train automated people mover system. The facility features over 130 check-in counters and multiple security checkpoints to accommodate the high volume of passenger traffic. Delta Air Lines maintains its primary operations center within the Domestic Terminal, utilizing the majority of available counter space.

Ground level accommodations include rental car facilities, MARTA rail connections, and designated areas for taxis and ride-sharing services. The terminal's baggage claim area contains 12 carousels distributed across the east and west sides of the building.

Major renovations occurred in 2010 and 2018, modernizing security systems and expanding retail offerings. The terminal currently houses over 40 restaurants and shops, ranging from quick-service establishments to full-service dining options. Notable features include the Georgia-themed retail displays and local Atlanta business partnerships.

The Domestic Terminal processes approximately 50 million passengers annually, making it one of the busiest terminal facilities in the United States. Its design prioritizes efficient passenger flow between check-in, security, and concourse access points.
