About Terminal D
Terminal D at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport serves as one of the airport's seven passenger terminals and primarily handles domestic flights. The terminal opened in 1980 as part of the airport's expansion program and underwent significant renovations in the early 2000s.
Located on the western side of the airport complex, Terminal D spans approximately 1.2 million square feet and features 40 gates numbered D1 through D40. The terminal connects to the airport's underground automated people mover system, known as the Plane Train, which provides transportation between all terminals and the central atrium.
Delta Air Lines operates the majority of flights from Terminal D, utilizing it as a hub for domestic routes throughout the United States. Other airlines with operations in Terminal D include Southwest Airlines, United Airlines, and various regional carriers. The terminal handles approximately 15-20 million passengers annually.
Terminal D houses numerous dining and retail establishments, including both local Atlanta-based restaurants and national chains. Notable dining options include Paschal's Restaurant, representing Atlanta's culinary heritage, and various fast-food outlets. Retail stores offer everything from travel essentials to Georgia-themed souvenirs.
