About Seattle–Tacoma International Airport
Seattle–Tacoma International Airport, commonly known as Sea-Tac Airport, is the primary commercial airport serving the Seattle metropolitan area in Washington State. Located in the city of SeaTac, approximately 14 miles south of downtown Seattle, the airport is situated between Seattle and Tacoma. The airport opened on July 9, 1949, and has since become one of the busiest airports in the United States.
Sea-Tac Airport is the primary hub for Alaska Airlines and its regional subsidiary Horizon Air. The facility serves as a focus city for Delta Air Lines and operates as an operating base for several other carriers. In 2019, the airport handled over 51 million passengers, making it the 8th busiest airport in North America by passenger traffic.
The airport features a single terminal building with four concourses: Concourse A, Concourse B, Concourse C, and Concourse D. A Central Terminal houses ticketing, baggage claim, and ground transportation facilities. The facility includes two parallel runways designated 16L/34R and 16R/34L, plus a third crosswind runway 16C/34C. International flights arrive at the South Satellite terminal, which opened in 1973.
Ground transportation options include Link light rail service connecting to downtown Seattle, various bus services, rental cars, taxis, and ride-sharing services. The Link light rail station opened at the airport in December 2009, providing direct service to downtown Seattle and the University of Washington. The Port of Seattle owns and operates the airport.
