Abu Dhabi International Airport (AUH) is the second largest airport in the United Arab Emirates, located in the emirate of Abu Dhabi. Situated approximately 30.6 kilometers from the city center, it serves as the main hub for Etihad Airways, the national carrier of the UAE.
The airport began operations in 1982, replacing the older Al Bateen Airport. It consists of three operational passenger terminals and handles over 20 million passengers annually. The airport features two parallel runways, both 4,100 meters in length, capable of accommodating all types of commercial aircraft including the Airbus A380.
In 2017, the airport commenced operations of its newest and largest facility, Terminal A (formerly known as the Midfield Terminal Building). This state-of-the-art terminal spans 742,000 square meters and can handle up to 45 million passengers annually. The terminal building features 65 aircraft gates and is designed to accommodate the growing aviation demands of the region.
The airport serves as a crucial gateway connecting East and West, offering flights to over 100 destinations worldwide. It plays a vital role in Abu Dhabi's economic development strategy, supporting tourism and business travel. The facility also includes extensive cargo handling capabilities, processing hundreds of thousands of tonnes of cargo annually through its dedicated cargo terminal.
