About Canton of Valais

Canton of Valais is situated in the southwestern part of Switzerland, bordered by the canton of Vaud to the northwest, Bern to the north, Uri to the northeast, and Ticino to the east. It also shares its southern borders with Italy and its western borders with France. The capital of Valais is Sion, known for its historical landmarks, including the Valère Basilica and Tourbillon Castle, as well as its renowned vineyards.

Valais covers an area of about 2,017 square miles (5,224 square kilometers) and has a population of 365,844[1]. The canton is divided into 13 districts, each offering a mix of cultural and natural attractions. Other major towns include Martigny, known for its Roman history and cultural festivals, and Brig, a gateway to the Simplon Pass. The official languages are French and German, reflecting the canton’s diverse cultural heritage.
