Appenzell Innerrhoden is located in northeastern Switzerland, surrounded by the canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden and the canton of St. Gallen. The capital, Appenzell, is a small town with colorful houses and local festivals.

Established in 1597, Appenzell Innerrhoden is known for the Landsgemeinde, an open-air assembly, and offers hiking trails with views of the Alps.
