About Seoul
Seoul is the capital and largest metropolis of South Korea, with a population of approximately 9.7 million people in the city proper and 26 million in the Seoul Capital Area, making it one of the largest metropolitan areas in the world. The city is situated on the Han River in the country's northwest region and has been Korea's capital for more than 600 years, since the Joseon Dynasty established it as their capital in 1394.
As the economic, political, and cultural center of South Korea, Seoul generates about a quarter of the country's GDP. The city is home to the headquarters of major global companies including Samsung, LG, and Hyundai. Seoul's technological infrastructure is highly developed, with the world's fastest internet speeds and an extensive public transportation system that includes one of the world's largest subway networks.
