About Terminal 1
Terminal 1 at Indira Gandhi International Airport serves as the primary domestic terminal for India's busiest airport, located in New Delhi. The terminal was inaugurated in 2009 as part of the airport's modernization project ahead of the Commonwealth Games. It handles approximately 20 million passengers annually and operates flights to major Indian cities including Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata, and Hyderabad.
The terminal spans 518,000 square feet across three levels and features 78 check-in counters, 20 security screening points, and 28 boarding gates. Terminal 1 is divided into two sections: 1C for arrivals and 1D for departures, connected by a common processing area.
Major Indian carriers operating from Terminal 1 include IndiGo, SpiceJet, GoAir, and Vistara. The terminal incorporates sustainable design elements such as natural lighting systems and energy-efficient air conditioning. Passenger amenities include retail outlets, food courts, business lounges, and free Wi-Fi throughout the facility.
Terminal 1 connects to the Delhi Metro via the Airport Express Line, providing direct access to central Delhi in approximately 20 minutes.
