About Espiritu Santo

Espiritu Santo Island, commonly known as Santo, is the largest island in the Vanuatu archipelago, with an area of 3,956 square kilometers (1,527 sq mi). It is located in the Sanma Province and is the most northern of Vanuatu's large islands.

The island's main town, Luganville, is the second-largest settlement in Vanuatu. The island features the country's highest point, Mount Tabwemasana, reaching an elevation of 1,879 meters. One of its most famous attractions is Million Dollar Point, where the US military dumped equipment after World War II, creating an unique underwater museum.

Espiritu Santo is renowned for its Champagne Beach, considered one of the most beautiful beaches in the South Pacific, and the Blue Holes, a series of stunning natural freshwater pools. The island is also home to the famous SS President Coolidge wreck, one of the world's largest accessible shipwrecks and a premier diving destination.

The island's economy is primarily based on agriculture, with copra, cocoa, and beef production being the main activities. Tourism plays an increasingly important role, particularly around diving sites and natural attractions. During World War II, the island served as a crucial Allied military base, leaving behind numerous historical sites and relics that attract history enthusiasts today.
