The hamlet lies along Moriches Bay and is bordered by the hamlets of Westhampton Beach, Quiogue, East Moriches, Eastport, and Remsenburg. New York State Route 27A (Montauk Highway) passes through the community, while Sunrise Highway (NY 27) runs along its northern edge.
Westhampton is served by Francis S. Gabreski Airport, a county-owned public-use airport that also hosts the 106th Rescue Wing of the New York Air National Guard. The airport was originally established in 1943 as Suffolk County Army Air Field.
The area is part of the collective region commonly referred to as The Hamptons, a popular summer resort destination on eastern Long Island. Public education is provided primarily by the Westhampton Beach Union Free School District.
The Long Island Rail Road's Montauk Branch serves the area through the Westhampton station.
