As of the 2020 United States Census, the population of Eastport was 2,219.
The hamlet lies along Moriches Bay and is served by ZIP code 11941. Eastport is bordered by Eastport-South Manor to the west, Speonk to the east, and Manorville to the north. New York State Route 27A (Montauk Highway) runs through the community, and Sunrise Highway (NY 27) passes just to the north.
Historically, Eastport was known as a center of duck farming on Long Island during the late 19th and 20th centuries, contributing to the region's reputation for the "Long Island duck" industry. The decline of duck farming in the latter half of the 20th century led to a shift in the local economy toward residential and small commercial use.
Education in the area is provided by the Eastport-South Manor Central School District. The Long Island Rail Road's Montauk Branch passes through Eastport, though the nearest active stations are located in Speonk and Mastic-Shirley.
