Wainscott is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) located in the Town of East Hampton, Suffolk County, New York, on the South Fork of Long Island.
Wainscott is situated between the villages of East Hampton to the east and Sagaponack to the west, along Montauk Highway (NY Route 27). Its southern boundary reaches the Atlantic Ocean.
The hamlet is historically characterized by open agricultural land. A significant portion of the local terrain consists of preserved farmland and fields, which distinguishes Wainscott from more densely developed neighboring communities in the Hamptons area. This agricultural character has been partially maintained through local land preservation efforts in Suffolk County.
Wainscott falls within the jurisdiction of the Wainscott Common School District, one of the smallest school districts in New York State.
