About University of Washington
The University of Washington (UW) is a public research university with its main campus located in Seattle. Founded in 1861, the University of Washington is one of the oldest universities on the West Coast and the flagship institution of the six-campus University of Washington system. The Seattle campus occupies 703 acres in the University District neighborhood northeast of downtown Seattle.
UW is consistently ranked among the top public universities in the United States and worldwide. The university enrolls over 48,000 students across its three campuses, with the majority attending the Seattle campus. The institution comprises 16 schools and colleges offering approximately 1,800 undergraduate courses and 370 graduate degree programs. Major academic divisions include the College of Arts and Sciences, College of Engineering, Foster School of Business, School of Medicine, School of Law, Information School, Evans School of Public Policy and Governance, and others.

The Seattle campus features Collegiate Gothic architecture in its older buildings, with the iconic Suzzallo Library serving as a centerpiece. The campus includes the Burke Museum of Natural History and Culture, the Henry Art Gallery, and the University of Washington Bothell and Tacoma campuses serve as branch locations. The university's athletic programs compete in NCAA Division I as part of the Big Ten Conference, following a conference realignment in 2024. Allen School of Computer Science & Engineering is housed in the Bill & Melinda Gates Center for Computer Science & Engineering and the Paul G. Allen Center for Computer Science & Engineering. The UW Light Rail station, opened in 2016, provides direct rapid transit access to the campus via Sound Transit's Link light rail system.
