About Terminal 5

Terminal 5 at Chicago O'Hare International Airport is the airport's international terminal, serving primarily non-U.S. carriers and international flights. Opened in 1993, the terminal was designed to handle the growing volume of international traffic at one of the world's busiest airports.

The facility spans approximately 1.2 million square feet and features 21 gates capable of accommodating wide-body aircraft. Terminal 5 houses U.S. Customs and Border Protection facilities, including immigration and customs processing areas for international arrivals. The terminal serves airlines such as Lufthansa, British Airways, Air France, and numerous other international carriers.

Passenger amenities include duty-free shopping, restaurants, and lounges. The terminal connects to the main airport complex via the Airport Transit System (ATS), providing automated transportation to other terminals and parking facilities.

Terminal 5 underwent significant renovations and expansions in the 2000s and 2010s to modernize facilities and increase capacity. The terminal plays a crucial role in O'Hare's status as a major international gateway, handling millions of international passengers annually and serving destinations across Europe, Asia, and other global markets.
