Somaliland is a self-declared state located in the Horn of Africa, specifically in the northwestern region of Somalia. It shares borders with Djibouti to the northwest, Ethiopia to the south and west, and Somalia to the east. The territory covers an area of approximately 137,600 square kilometers (53,128 square miles).

The region stretches from the Gulf of Aden in the north to the Ethiopian border in the south. Its coastline along the Gulf of Aden extends for about 850 kilometers (530 miles). The capital and largest city, Hargeisa, is situated in the western portion of the territory. The landscape varies from coastal plains in the north to mountainous terrain in the center, and semi-desert in the south. Despite its strategic location along major maritime routes, Somaliland remains internationally unrecognized as a sovereign state.
