About Moscow

Moscow is the capital and largest city of Russia, situated on the Moskva River in the western part of the country. With a population of approximately 13.1 million people within the city limits and over 20 million in its urban area, it ranks as the largest city entirely within Europe and one of the most populous cities globally.

Founded in 1147 by Yury Dolgoruky, Moscow has served as Russia's political, economic, cultural, and scientific center for centuries. The city's heart is the Kremlin, a medieval fortress that houses the official residence of the President of Russia and several government buildings. Adjacent to the Kremlin lies the iconic Red Square, home to the colorful Saint Basil's Cathedral with its distinctive onion domes, the State Historical Museum, and Lenin's Mausoleum.
