Description:
This map shows museums, theatres, monuments, tourist information centers, public toilets, restaurants, points of interest, tourist attractions and sightseeings in Yakimanka (Moscow).
Yakimanka is a historic district located in the Central Administrative Okrug of Moscow, Russia. The area extends along the right bank of the Moskva River and has been an important part of Moscow since the 14th century.
The district's name originates from the Church of Saint Joachim and Anna, which was built in the 16th century but no longer exists. Throughout its history, Yakimanka developed from a craftsmen's settlement into one of Moscow's most prestigious neighborhoods. The area gained particular significance during the 18th and 19th centuries when wealthy merchants and aristocrats began building their mansions there.
Notable landmarks in Yakimanka include the Tretyakov Gallery, Russia's premier collection of Russian fine art, and the Church of St. Nicholas in Bersenevka, a rare example of 17th-century Moscow baroque architecture. The district also houses the Gorky Park, Moscow's central park and a major recreational site, established in 1928. The famous Red October chocolate factory, now converted into a cultural cluster, is also located within the district's boundaries.
Modern Yakimanka serves as both a cultural center and business district, featuring numerous embassies, government buildings, and corporate offices. The area is well-connected to other parts of Moscow through multiple metro stations, including Oktyabrskaya, Polyanka, and Tretyakovskaya.
