The Moscow Kremlin is a historic fortified complex located in the heart of Moscow, Russia, serving as the official residence of the President of the Russian Federation. This iconic fortress sits on Borovitsky Hill, overlooking the Moskva River, and represents the oldest part of the Russian capital.

The Kremlin's current appearance was largely shaped during the late 15th century, when Italian architects were invited by Ivan III to renovate the fortress. The complex is surrounded by massive walls stretching for 2,235 meters (7,332 feet) with a height ranging from 5 to 19 meters (16 to 62 feet). The walls feature 20 towers, with the Spasskaya Tower being the most famous, recognized by its distinctive clock.

Within its walls, the Kremlin houses several significant architectural landmarks. The Cathedral Square forms the heart of the complex, featuring five cathedrals built in the 15th and 16th centuries. The most notable among them is the Cathedral of the Assumption, which served as the site of coronations for Russian tsars and important state ceremonies. The Ivan the Great Bell Tower, standing at 81 meters (266 feet), was once the tallest structure in Russia and remains a prominent feature of Moscow's skyline.

The Kremlin also contains important government buildings, including the Grand Kremlin Palace and the State Kremlin Palace. The Armory Chamber, one of Moscow's oldest museums, displays royal treasures, diplomatic gifts, and Fabergé eggs. Near the Armory stands the world's largest bell, the Tsar Bell, and the giant Tsar Cannon, neither of which has ever been used for its intended purpose.

In 1990, the Moscow Kremlin was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site along with Red Square. Today, while parts of the Kremlin function as a government facility, significant portions are open to the public as a museum complex, attracting millions of visitors annually who come to explore Russia's rich historical and cultural heritage.
