The city's economy is also supported by trade, services, and construction industries.
The city boasts several notable attractions and landmarks. The Praia da Rocha (Rock Beach) is one of the most famous beaches in the Algarve, characterized by its dramatic limestone cliffs and golden sand. The Portimão Museum, housed in a former sardine canning factory, showcases the city's industrial heritage and maritime history. The Igreja Matriz de Portimão (Mother Church), dating back to the 15th century, represents significant religious architecture despite being damaged in the 1755 earthquake.

The local climate is Mediterranean, characterized by mild winters and warm summers, with an average of 300 sunny days per year. This climate, combined with the city's infrastructure and natural features, has made Portimão a year-round tourist destination. The city is served by Faro Airport, located approximately 70 kilometers to the east, and is connected to major Portuguese cities by rail and highway networks.
