About Eindhoven

Eindhoven is a major city in the province of North Brabant, Netherlands, located approximately 70 miles south of Amsterdam. With a population of over 235,000 residents, it is the fifth-largest city in the Netherlands and serves as a significant technological and industrial hub.
The city's modern development is closely tied to the electronics company Philips, which was founded there in 1891. Until 1997, Philips had its headquarters in Eindhoven, significantly influencing the city's growth and earning it the nickname "Lichtstad" (City of Light). Today, Eindhoven is known as a major technology and design hub, home to the High Tech Campus Eindhoven, often called "the smartest square kilometer in Europe," which hosts more than 160 companies and institutes with over 12,000 researchers, developers, and entrepreneurs.
Notable landmarks include the Van Abbemuseum, one of the most important museums for modern and contemporary art in Europe, and the Evoluon, a former science museum built in 1966 that has become an iconic piece of architecture resembling a flying saucer. The St. Catherine's Church (Sint-Catharinakerk), located in the city center, is the oldest remaining church in Eindhoven, with parts dating back to the 13th century.
The city is also home to PSV Eindhoven, one of the Netherlands' most successful football clubs, which plays at the Philips Stadium. Educational institutions include the Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), consistently ranked among the world's top technical universities, and the Design Academy Eindhoven, internationally renowned for its innovative approach to design education.
Eindhoven hosts several significant events throughout the year, including Dutch Design Week, the largest design event in Northern Europe, and GLOW, an annual light art festival that transforms the city into an open-air gallery of light installations. The city's strategic location and excellent infrastructure, including Eindhoven Airport, the second-largest airport in the Netherlands, make it an important transportation hub for the region.
