About Den Bosch ('s-Hertogenbosch)
's-Hertogenbosch (commonly known as Den Bosch) is a city and municipality in the Netherlands, serving as the capital of the province of North Brabant. Located approximately 80 kilometers south of Amsterdam, it was founded in 1185 by Duke Henry I of Brabant, with the name literally meaning "The Duke's Forest" in Dutch.
With a population of approximately 113,000 residents (as of 2023), Den Bosch is known for its well-preserved medieval architecture and rich cultural heritage. The city's historic center features numerous buildings dating back to the 14th and 15th centuries. One of its most prominent landmarks is the St. John's Cathedral (Sint-Janskathedraal), a magnificent example of Brabantine Gothic architecture built between 1220 and 1530, featuring intricate sculptures and flying buttresses.

The city boasts several significant cultural institutions, including the Noordbrabants Museum, which houses important collections of art and historical artifacts from the region, with special attention to works by Vincent van Gogh, who lived in the province. The Jheronimus Bosch Art Center is dedicated to the city's most famous resident, the medieval painter Hieronymus Bosch, known for his fantastic and nightmarish artworks.
Den Bosch is also renowned for its unique canal system called the Binnendieze. This network of waterways, partially covered by buildings and streets, dates back to the 14th century and was originally used for transportation and defense. Today, boat tours through these underground waterways are a popular tourist attraction.
The city is famous for its local culinary specialty, the Bossche Bol - a large, chocolate-covered pastry filled with whipped cream, which has been produced in the city since the 18th century. Den Bosch maintains strong economic ties in various sectors, including information technology, food processing, and manufacturing. The city serves as a regional commercial and administrative center, hosting numerous businesses and government offices.
