About Courchevel
Courchevel is a premier ski resort located in the French Alps in the Savoie department of southeastern France. It forms part of Les Trois Vallées (The Three Valleys), the world's largest connected ski area. The resort was established in 1946 as part of France's post-World War II Plan Neige initiative to develop winter sports infrastructure in the country's mountain regions.
The resort comprises five villages situated at different elevations: Le Praz (1300m), La Tania (1400m), Courchevel Village (1550m), Courchevel Moriond (1650m), and Courchevel (1850m). The highest village, commonly known as Courchevel 1850, serves as the main hub and is internationally recognized for its luxury hotels, Michelin-starred restaurants, and upscale boutiques. It has gained a reputation as one of the most exclusive ski destinations in the world, attracting wealthy international clientele.
Courchevel offers approximately 150 kilometers of ski runs across 65 slopes, ranging from beginner to expert level. The resort features modern lift infrastructure with over 60 ski lifts providing access to the broader Three Valleys ski domain, which encompasses more than 600 kilometers of marked runs.
Courchevel Altiport, one of the world's highest airports at 2,008 meters above sea level, serves the resort. The airport is notable for its challenging short runway with an 18.5% gradient and appears in several films. The resort hosted ski jumping events during the 1992 Winter Olympics held in nearby Albertville, with Le Tremplin du Praz serving as the Olympic ski jumping venue. This facility remains operational and continues to host international competitions.
