About Côte d'Ivoire
Côte d'Ivoire, also known as Ivory Coast, is a country located in West Africa. Its capital is Yamoussoukro, while its largest city and economic center is Abidjan. The country covers an area of 124,504 sq miles (322,463 square kilometers) and shares borders with Guinea, Liberia, Mali, Burkina Faso, and Ghana. With a population of approximately 27 million people, it is one of the most populous countries in West Africa.
The official language is French, inherited from the colonial period when the country was under French rule. Côte d'Ivoire gained independence from France in 1960. The country's economy is largely based on agriculture, particularly the production of cocoa, of which it is the world's largest exporter, accounting for approximately 40% of global production.
The country experienced significant economic growth in the 1960s and 1970s, often referred to as the "Ivorian Miracle." However, political instability and civil conflicts in the early 2000s affected its development. Today, Côte d'Ivoire has reemerged as one of West Africa's leading economies, with substantial growth in various sectors including telecommunications, construction, and manufacturing. The country is also known for its diverse wildlife, including hippos, leopards, and chimpanzees, and features several national parks and nature reserves.
