Sri Lanka Political Map
Description:
This map shows governmental boundaries of countries, provinces and provinces capitals, towns, villages, main roads, secondary roads, railroads and airports in Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka's political map comprises 9 provinces and 25 administrative districts. The country's capital, Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte, serves as the administrative center, while Colombo remains the largest city and commercial capital. The Western Province, containing both capitals, is the most densely populated region.
The provinces are: Western, Central, Southern, Northern, Eastern, North Western, North Central, Uva, and Sabaragamuwa. Each province is administered by a directly elected provincial council, operating under a devolved government system established by the 13th Amendment to the Constitution in 1987.
The Northern Province, covering 8,884 square kilometers, represents the Tamil-majority region, while the Eastern Province features a mixed population of Sinhalese, Tamil, and Muslim communities. The Central Province, home to the city of Kandy, historically served as the last independent kingdom of Sri Lanka until British colonization in 1815. Each district is headed by a District Secretary appointed by the central government, and districts are further subdivided into Divisional Secretariats, creating a three-tier administrative structure.
