About Mahé

Mahe Island is the largest island in the Seychelles archipelago, located in the Indian Ocean. With an area of 157 square kilometers, it hosts approximately 90% of the country's total population, around 100,000 people. The island serves as the economic and political center of Seychelles, with Victoria, the nation's capital city, situated on its northeastern coast.

The island's topography is dominated by granite mountains, with Morne Seychellois, the highest peak in Seychelles, reaching 905 meters above sea level. The mountainous terrain is part of the Morne Seychellois National Park, which covers more than 20% of the island and houses various endemic species of flora and fauna.

Mahe features over 65 beaches, with Beau Vallon being one of the most popular. This 3-kilometer stretch of white sand is renowned for its calm waters and water sports facilities. The island's east coast is home to Victoria Market, a bustling cultural hub where locals trade fresh fish, fruits, and spices.

Mission Lodge, a historical site formerly known as Venn's Town, offers panoramic views of the western coast and stands as a testament to the island's colonial history. The nearby Seychelles National Botanical Gardens, established in 1901, spans 5 acres and showcases various endemic plants, including the legendary Coco de Mer palm.

The island's infrastructure includes an international airport, a commercial port, and a modern road network. Mahe's economy is primarily driven by tourism, fishing, and agriculture, with numerous luxury resorts dotting its coastline.
