Map of ethnic groups in Serbia

Description:
This map shows ethnic groups on the Serbia map.

Serbia is a multi-ethnic state with a population of approximately 7 million people. According to the 2011 census, Serbs form the majority ethnic group, comprising about 83% of the population. The country officially recognizes 21 ethnic minorities, with significant rights and protections guaranteed by the constitution.

The largest ethnic minorities include Hungarians (3.5%), primarily concentrated in the northern region of Vojvodina, and Roma (2.1%), who are distributed throughout the country. Bosniaks, mainly living in the Sandžak region, represent about 2% of the population, while Croats, Slovaks, and Montenegrins each constitute less than 1% of the total population.

Each recognized minority has the right to use their language officially in areas where they make up more than 15% of the local population. In Vojvodina, six languages have official status alongside Serbian: Hungarian, Slovak, Croatian, Romanian, Ruthenian, and Czech.

The ethnic composition of Serbia has been influenced by historical migrations, particularly during the Ottoman and Habsburg periods, as well as more recent events in the 20th century. Many ethnic communities maintain their cultural institutions, including schools, media outlets, and cultural centers, supported by both state and local governments.
