About Marigot

Marigot is the capital and largest city of the French side of Saint Martin, a Caribbean island shared between France and the Netherlands. Located on the western coast of the island, it serves as the primary administrative and commercial center for the French collectivity of Saint Martin.

The city features a blend of Caribbean and French colonial architecture, with many colorful buildings and traditional wooden houses. The main commercial district includes duty-free shops, local markets, and various restaurants serving both French and Creole cuisine. The population of Marigot is approximately 6,000 residents.

One of the city's most prominent landmarks is Fort Louis, constructed in 1789 to protect Marigot Bay from foreign invaders. The fort sits atop a hill overlooking the harbor and provides panoramic views of the surrounding area, including neighboring Anguilla. The Marigot Market, a vibrant open-air marketplace, operates daily except Sundays and holidays, offering local produce, spices, crafts, and fresh seafood.

The city's waterfront features the Marina Port La Royale, which accommodates various boats and yachts while housing upscale boutiques and waterfront dining establishments. The Saint Martin Museum showcases the island's history through artifacts and exhibitions, providing insights into the region's cultural heritage and colonial past.

Marigot experiences a tropical climate with average temperatures ranging between 75°F and 85°F (24°C to 29°C) throughout the year. The city serves as a popular cruise ship destination and provides ferry services to neighboring islands such as Anguilla and Saint Barthélemy.
