About Qatar

Qatar (officially the State of Qatar) occupies a small peninsula on the northeastern coast of the Arabian Peninsula in Western Asia. The country shares its only land border with Saudi Arabia to the south, while the rest of its territory borders the Persian Gulf. The total area encompasses 4,468 square miles (11,571 square kilometers).

The capital and largest city, Doha, contains over 80% of the country's population and serves as the economic and administrative center. Qatar's population reached 3 million in 2023, though only about 10-15% consists of Qatari citizens, while the remainder includes expatriate workers.

Qatar possesses the world's third-largest natural gas reserves and oil reserves, making it one of the wealthiest countries per capita. The nation's economy primarily depends on petroleum and natural gas exports, which account for more than 70% of government revenue. Qatar has invested significantly in infrastructure, education, and healthcare, establishing itself as a major financial hub in the Middle East.

The country features a desert climate with hot summers and mild winters. The terrain consists mainly of flat, rocky desert and coastal salt pans. Qatar's modern architecture defines its urban landscape, particularly in Doha, where the skyline showcases numerous contemporary skyscrapers and innovative designs.

Major tourist attractions include the Museum of Islamic Art, designed by I.M. Pei, the artificial island development The Pearl-Qatar, and Souq Waqif, a traditional market featuring local artifacts, spices, and textiles. The National Museum of Qatar, shaped like a desert rose crystal, presents the nation's history and heritage. Visitors can experience desert adventures through dune bashing, camel rides, and overnight stays in desert camps.

Qatar gained international prominence as the host of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, which accelerated infrastructure development and tourism facilities. The country developed multiple world-class stadiums and expanded its transportation network, including the Doha Metro system. The nation continues to diversify its economy through investments in education, sports, and tourism sectors, positioning itself as a significant regional power in the Gulf region.
