Coimbra, located in central Portugal, is a historic city situated on the banks of the Mondego River. With a population of approximately 145,000, it serves as the largest municipality in the Centro Region. The city's history dates back to Roman times when it was known as Aeminium.

The city is primarily known for hosting the University of Coimbra, established in 1290, making it one of the oldest continuously operating universities in the world.
