About Hamilton Zoo

Hamilton Zoo is a 25-hectare zoological garden located in Hamilton, New Zealand. Established in 1969, it is the region's largest zoo and is operated by the Hamilton City Council. The facility is situated in the suburb of Rotokauri, approximately 7 kilometers from Hamilton's city center.

The zoo houses over 600 animals representing more than 100 species, including both native New Zealand wildlife and exotic species. Notable exhibits include Face2Face, which allows visitors to experience close encounters with various animals under professional supervision. The zoo maintains significant breeding programs for endangered species, including the Southern White Rhinoceros and Red Panda.

Among its key attractions are the Free Flight Aviary, home to numerous native and exotic bird species, and the Tropical Rainforest Complex, which houses various primates and reptiles. The zoo also features New Zealand's largest walk-through aviary and maintains one of the country's most successful breeding programs for the native kaka parrot.

Hamilton Zoo offers various educational programs and guided tours, focusing on conservation awareness and wildlife education. The facility includes amenities such as a cafe, gift shop, and multiple picnic areas throughout the grounds.
