About Mexico City
Mexico City, the capital and largest city of Mexico, is located in the Valley of Mexico, a large valley in the high plateaus of central Mexico, at an elevation of 2,240 meters (7,350 feet). As one of the largest cities in the world, it serves as an important political, economic, tourist, and cultural center.
Mexico City is located in the central part of the country and is therefore an important center of Mexico's transportation network. The city is connected to various parts of the country by extensive road, rail, and air routes, and Mexico City International Airport is the busiest in Latin America.
Mexico City's main attractions include the historic center, which contains the Zocalo, one of the largest city squares in the world. The Zocalo is surrounded by the Cathedral and the National Palace, which contains murals by Diego Rivera. Chapultepec Park, one of the largest urban parks in the Western Hemisphere, is home to museums, a zoo and a castle with panoramic views of the city. The National Museum of Anthropology, located within the park, displays important artifacts from Mexico's pre-Columbian history.
In addition, the city has many neighborhoods, each with its own characteristics. For example, Coyoacán has cobblestone streets and colonial architecture, while Polanco has upscale stores, boutiques, and restaurants. An extensive public transportation system, including the metro, provides an ephemeral and convenient way to get around the city.

Interesting facts
Sinking City: Mexico City is built on the site of Lake Texcoco, and as a result it is sinking at an alarming rate. In some areas, the city is subsiding by about 10 centimeters (about 4 inches) per year due to groundwater extraction. This phenomenon has led to major engineering problems, especially with regard to infrastructure stability and water management.
Home of the smallest volcano: Mexico City is home to the Cuescomate volcano, which is said to be the smallest volcano in the world. Located in the La Magdalena Contreras region, this dormant volcano is about 13 meters (43 feet) high. Although it is more of a geyser cone than a traditional volcano, it is a unique geological feature within the city limits.
