About Mataiva

Mataiva is a unique atoll in the Tuamotu Archipelago, distinguished by its reticulated lagoon pattern, visible from above as a network of pools separated by coral ridges. The atoll covers 16 km2 (6.2 sq mi) of land area and contains rich phosphate deposits.

The population of approximately 300 inhabitants primarily engages in copra production and small-scale tourism. The atoll's unusual geology and pristine environment have made it a subject of scientific interest and a potential eco-tourism destination.
