About Raiatea

Raiatea, known as the "Sacred Island," is the second largest of the Society Islands, covering 167.7 km2 (64.7 sq mi). The island holds paramount cultural significance as the traditional center of Polynesian culture and religion. The UNESCO World Heritage site Marae Taputapuatea serves as a testament to its historical importance.

The island, with its population of approximately 13,000, maintains a diverse economy based on vanilla cultivation, boat building, and tourism. Its deep lagoon and numerous bays make it a popular yachting destination and the center of sail tourism in French Polynesia.
