About Val Thorens

Val Thorens is a ski resort located in the Tarentaise Valley in the Savoie department of southeastern France. Situated at an elevation of 7,545 feet (2,300 meters), it holds the distinction of being the highest ski resort in Europe.

The resort was constructed in 1971 as part of a planned development project. Val Thorens is a component of the Les Trois Vallées (The Three Valleys) ski area, which is the largest interconnected ski domain in the world, providing access to approximately 373 miles (600 kilometers) of marked ski runs. The resort offers direct connections to neighboring ski areas including Méribel, Courchevel, and Les Menuires.

Due to its high altitude, Val Thorens typically operates one of the longest ski seasons in the Alps, generally running from late November through early May. The resort features access to the Péclet Glacier, which allows for year-round skiing possibilities.

The village infrastructure includes approximately 30,000 tourist beds and numerous ski lifts. Val Thorens has received multiple awards from World Ski Awards, including recognition as World's Best Ski Resort on several occasions between 2013 and 2019.

The area provides terrain suitable for various skill levels, with the ski domain encompassing altitudes ranging from 4,265 feet (1,300 meters) to 11,319 feet (3,450 meters) at the summit of Cime de Caron.
