About Hangzhou Metro

The Hangzhou Metro is the rapid transit system of Hangzhou, the capital of Zhejiang Province, China. It is mainly operated by Hangzhou Metro Group Co., Ltd. Some lines are run by joint ventures with Hong Kong's MTR Corporation. The network has 13 lines and 270 stations.

Construction of the first line began in 2007. Line 1 opened on 24 November 2012, making Hangzhou the first city in Zhejiang Province with a metro system. The line runs from the city centre across the Qiantang River to Xiaoshan District. Line 2 followed in 2014 and Line 4 in 2015.

The network grew quickly in the years before the 2022 Asian Games, which Hangzhou hosted and which were postponed to September–October 2023. Several lines opened between 2019 and 2022, including Lines 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 16. Line 19 also opened in this period as an express line linking Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport with Hangzhou West railway station. By the time of the Games, the system had more than 500 kilometres of route, counting the intercity lines to Haining and Shaoxing.

Passengers can pay with mobile QR codes as well as with traditional tickets and transit cards.
