About Terminal 3C
Terminal 3C (T3C) is the main building of Terminal 3 at Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK) in Chaoyang District, Beijing, China. It is the largest of the three concourses that make up Terminal 3, alongside Terminal 3D and Terminal 3E. T3C holds the terminal's main check-in hall, its central baggage-handling facilities and gates for domestic flights.
Terminal 3 was built as part of a major airport expansion before the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. Construction started in March 2004, and the terminal opened in stages in early 2008. It became fully operational on 26 March 2008. The complex was designed by the British architectural firm Foster + Partners, with engineering by Arup and airport planning by NACO. When it opened, Terminal 3 was the largest airport terminal building in the world, with a total floor area of about 986,000 square metres.
T3C has a long, low roof that rises and falls, and its triangular skylights let daylight into the building. The colours inside shift gradually from red to yellow, which draws on traditional Chinese colour symbolism.
T3C is the main point of entry to Terminal 3 for both domestic and international travellers. Departing international passengers check in at T3C and go through border control and security there. They then take an automated people mover train to Terminal 3E, where the international gates are. Arriving international passengers go through immigration at T3E and then take the train back to T3C to collect their luggage and pass through customs.
The terminal has a station on the Capital Airport Express rail line, which connects the airport to central Beijing.
