About The Island in Pigeon Forge
The Island in Pigeon Forge is a retail, dining, and entertainment complex located in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, United States. The property opened in 2013 and occupies approximately 23 acres along the Parkway, the city's main thoroughfare.
The centerpiece of the complex is The Great Smoky Mountain Wheel, a 200-foot (61 m) observation wheel that opened in June 2013. The wheel features 42 climate-controlled gondolas, each capable of carrying up to eight passengers, and offers views of the surrounding Great Smoky Mountains.
Other notable attractions include a 400-foot-long show fountain, which performs choreographed water displays set to music and lights, and the Island Ropes Course. The complex also houses Paula Deen's Family Kitchen restaurant and retail store, Margaritaville Island Hotel (opened in 2016), a mirror maze, an arcade, and various specialty shops selling moonshine, candy, apparel, and souvenirs.
The Island was developed by Bob McManus and includes free parking for visitors. It is designed as an open-air pedestrian venue, with brick walkways, a central plaza, and covered wagon-style trolleys that transport guests around the property.
The complex has become one of the most visited destinations in Pigeon Forge, a city known for tourism related to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and nearby attractions such as Dollywood.
