About Dollywood

Dollywood is a theme park located in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, United States. It is jointly owned by entertainer Dolly Parton and Herschend Family Entertainment. The park attracts approximately 3 million visitors annually, making it the most visited ticketed tourist attraction in Tennessee.

The park sits on 160 acres in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains. It originated in 1961 as a small attraction called Rebel Railroad, which featured a steam train, general store, blacksmith shop, and saloon. In 1970, the park was renamed Goldrush Junction and later sold to the Cleveland-based Herschend family in 1976, becoming Silver Dollar City Tennessee. Dolly Parton became a co-owner in 1986, and the park was rebranded as Dollywood.

Dollywood is divided into themed areas, including Showstreet, Rivertown Junction, Craftsman's Valley, Timber Canyon, Wilderness Pass, Jukebox Junction, The Village, Owens Farm, and Wildwood Grove. The park operates more than 40 rides and attractions, including roller coasters such as Lightning Rod, Wild Eagle, Thunderhead, Mystery Mine, Tennessee Tornado, and Big Bear Mountain. Wild Eagle, opened in 2012, was the first wing coaster in the United States.

The park emphasizes Appalachian heritage and features working craftsmen demonstrating traditional trades such as blacksmithing, glassblowing, woodcarving, and candle making. A replica of Parton's childhood home, the Tennessee Mountain Home, is on display. The park also houses a bald eagle sanctuary operated in partnership with the American Eagle Foundation, containing the country's largest presentation of non-releasable bald eagles.

Dollywood hosts several seasonal festivals, including the Festival of Nations, Flower & Food Festival, Smoky Mountain Summer Celebration, Harvest Festival, and Smoky Mountain Christmas. The complex also includes Dollywood's Splash Country water park, opened in 2001, and the Dollywood's DreamMore Resort, which opened in 2015. HeartSong Lodge & Resort, a second on-site hotel, opened in November 2023.

The park has received numerous Golden Ticket Awards from Amusement Today, including recognition for its friendliness, shows, and Christmas event. Dollywood employs approximately 4,000 seasonal workers and is a major economic driver in Sevier County.
