About RTA Rapid Transit
RTA Rapid Transit is the rapid transit system serving the Greater Cleveland area in the U.S. state of Ohio. It is operated by the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (GCRTA) and consists of one heavy rail line, the Red Line, and two light rail lines, the Blue Line and the Green Line.
The Red Line runs from Cleveland Hopkins International Airport in the southwest to the Louis Stokes Station at Windermere in East Cleveland. In 1968 Cleveland became the first city in the Western Hemisphere to provide a direct rapid transit connection between its downtown and its major airport.
The Blue and Green Lines share tracks through much of the eastern part of the system before splitting, with the Blue Line terminating at Warrensville–Van Aken and the Green Line ending at Green Road. These lines trace their origins to the Shaker Heights interurban service developed in the early 20th century.
The three lines meet at Tower City–Public Square, the central transfer hub located beneath the Terminal Tower in downtown Cleveland.
