Sudan Political Map

Description:
This map shows governmental boundaries of countries, states and states capitals, cities, towns, main roads, tracks, railroads and airports in Sudan.

Sudan's political map underwent significant changes following the secession of South Sudan in 2011, which reduced its total area to 1,861,484 square kilometers. The country is divided into 18 states (wilayat), with Khartoum serving as both the capital city and the largest metropolitan area.

The country shares borders with seven nations: Egypt to the north, Libya to the northwest, Chad to the west, South Sudan to the south, Ethiopia to the southeast, Eritrea to the east, and the Red Sea to the northeast. Major cities include Omdurman, Port Sudan, and Kassala, which serve as significant administrative and economic centers.

Each state is administered by a governor appointed by the central government, and further subdivided into localities. The Nile River system, including both the Blue and White Nile, plays a crucial role in defining the country's geography, and settlement patterns. Most of Sudan's major urban centers are located along these waterways.

The western region includes the Darfur states, while the eastern region contains the Red Sea state and Kassala. The northern region is largely dominated by the Nubian Desert, and the central region includes the agricultural heartland of the country.

States of Sudan: Khartoum, North Kordofan, South Kordofan, West Kordofan, Northern, Kassala, Gezira, White Nile, River Nile, Red Sea, Al Qadarif, Sennar, Blue Nile, Central Darfur, East Darfur, North Darfur, South Darfur, and West Darfur.
